If you are trying to connect to a public server, the Ihub and the Newlink dongles are no longer working. There is a new dongle out for SV called the SVLAN. The files are in the files section of this forum. If you want to spend your money on more SV equipment, you can find one on Ebay for $69.00.
Sonicview 8000HD Review Thread, Request for Reviews. I have a friend who recently purchased one of these, and she's had it only a day now but so far loves it! After looking at spec's for it, it looks like a really good box to me. As you may know i do carry the Sonicview 360 Elite Dual Tuner model, but have never tested a 8000HD. I may want to carry these but I wonder if anyone can give some feedback on how great, or not so great these are. How well do the blind scan, is the terrestrial tuner any good, does the USB PVR work well for HD playback etc. Any comments would be most welcome.

I then Closed out and was ready to Flash Programming and Saving I now decided to save the factory BIN and the latest release to my computer and transfer from there to my USB stick to upload to the receiver. 1st step was top load the Factory Rom V 101, took about 1 ½ minutes to load then ask to reboot, now ready to load the latest release, and then once loaded ask to reboot again. I now set all my Antenna settings and saved. I then set all my user settings and saved, another cool little feature in there is the front LED brightness can be adjusted. Then I set my time setting.
Then I set my local settings and also set all my user options and saved. I was now ready to scan, I decided to do an individual scan to make sure I got an exact count of each Sat channels. Once I did an individual scan of all 4 Sats all was good, so I then decided to go back and try the multiple scan feature which is in the same place but when going to your Sats you hit the Blue button on your remote to save the Sat as your favorite, once I saved all 4 Sats I then press the Yellow button to scan all. Now once viewing I adjusted the picture and made sure it was set to 16:9 and turned the display mode to Full screen.
Picture quality is pretty impressive. Then proceeded to check my locals, they worked but local number renumbering did not, so I will have to look into that more. Vista french. Remote Remote is pretty slick, not small in size but range is good, and has a TV, VCR, DVD, and STB button. And multiple feature buttons. Menu and exit buttons are in the right place, would prefer the numbers to be on top but this will do.
Also has a sleeper time button. Red button alone enables the time feature, Green button brings up the Category menu, Yellow button brings up the AV settings, and the blue button is for USB if connected. Also has a radio and Sat button which does work. Zoom button, and a search button. My next testing will be the pvr function and I will report that later on as that will take a little more time to test. For now that is it and I must say this is my first SV product and I am pleasantly impressed. I will also post some pictures for you all to see.

I use it to record to a hard drive, (I record Kojak off RTN) and that functions reliably. My unit had an incredibly noisy fan, so I enlarged the hole in the back of the chassis, intsalled a fan grill and slowed the fan down a bit. T Kayaker, you are right. I went and looked around at the specs and it has no support for MPEG 4 DVB-S2.
The 8PSK board only give you that, 8PSK. Another question, it does decode AC3 correct? No need for a stereo hooked up to it, AC3 right to your tv correct? Have you tried the A tuner? Does this work well?
I guess I lucked out by getting a 'noisy' fan. Actually, the fan itself isn't noisy, rather it's the speed at which it's turning and the blocked airflow. I think I read that the fan was an after thought and it shows. The ATSC tuner seems to function well, and I actually do use it on occasion. AC3 is good also, (no problems at all), and audio is transmitted with video over the HDMI port, which is how I connect it to my high-def TV. I'm relatively new to FTA and I find it amusing how the vast majority of products were designed for hackers, (what is the function of an 8psk module that only decodes turbo-FEC?). (Don't answer that).

If you want to see what formats are potentially decoded by the 8psk board, hunt down the data brief for the BCM4500 on the internet, (you can find the data brief but not the datasheet). The Sonicview HD8000 is a pretty good box and if it did DVB-S2 and MPEG4, I'd say it was near perfect.
I'm an Engineer by trade and I'm looking at making an 8PSK board that does actually decode at least DVB-S2, (I'm not sure the 8000 can support MPEG4 TS without major mods). It's very difficult, however, to acquire the ASICs and even datasheets for the myriad of chipsets out there as the vendors are protecting their intellectual property for set top boxes big time. I also got it for a good price, so I'd say I'm happy with it. Logged tracieok.
Sonicview 8000 Hd Receiver
Well after a week of playing around i love the reciever and it does recieve MPEG2,MPEG4 and DVBS2 as well. I did order mine with the 8PSK board already installed so that the whole box was covered by the 2 year warranty. The blind scan seems to find everything and even week signals. The only thing i have had problems with is the remote requires a bit harder push on the keys but that may be because its brand new. Over all for what i paid im totally happy and would buy another box for my computer room if i had the money.
If you do get one i would order it with the 8PSK installed so you dont void any part of the great 2yr warranty. I also like the info button it will show you what resolution the channel your on is being broadcast in. I have it hooked to a Sony 60' DLP rear projection useing the HDMI cable and the picture shown is as clear as OTS signals with no high comtrast like some of the HD programing on Direct Tv shows somwtimes.' This'tv which is ac3 audio comes right through so no more need for a digital converter on ac3 channels thats another plus for this reciever.
